Actress Cynthia Nixon blasted for wearing ‘Make Abortion Great Again’ hat
Pro-abortion actress Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role in “Sex and the City,” is being criticized on social media for posting an image of herself wearing a hat featuring the phrase, “Make Abortion Great Again.” People called the hat ‘disappointing,’ ‘evil,’ and ‘vile.’
On Thursday, Nixon shared a picture of herself wearing a hat that said, “Make Abortion Great Again.”
She urged followers to ask their senators to vote against the reconciliation bill that would partially defund Planned Parenthood (and which ultimately passed that same day).
Social media users fired back at Nixon, criticizing the hat and accusing her of “rage baiting.”
There is hope and healing available for women and men living with abortion trauma.
On Thursday, Nixon posted a photo of herself relaxing on a boat wearing the red hat. Her caption took aim at the controversial reconciliation bill dubbed by President Trump as the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’
In her post, shared the same day that the Senate approved the bill, Nixon wrote, “In addition to kicking 17 million Americans off their healthcare, Trump’s big ugly bill will strip critical funding to @plannedparenthood for non-abortion-related medical care. (And of course abortion is healthcare too!)”
She urged her followers to call their senators and tell them to vote against the bill.
Many followers weren’t impressed with her choice of words.
One commented, “What a horrid thing to post about. Abortion is ending a life. How can that be great?”
Another wrote, “This is terrible…. People don’t have abortions and think it’s ‘great’.”
Yet another said, “That hat is beyond horrific.”
But it wasn’t just those who oppose abortion who were upset by Nixon’s hat.
One person specifically commented, “As someone who is pro choice and works in healthcare this hat is very disheartening. I’ve never heard a woman (whether it’s their choice to end the pregnancy or when it’s out of their hands) express that their abortion was ever great. A weird move tbh.”
Another said, “Although I’m pro-choice, that hat … is disturbing.”
One follower shared, “I’ve had some really close friends who are dear to me and who I have supported having an abortion and none of them said it was great.”
Another wrote, “Um. This is very distasteful. Pro life or pro choice there isn’t anything great about abortions. Sick.”
Others called the hat “weird,” “repulsive,” and “vile” as well as “evil and demonic.”
And another called it “disappointing,” saying, “Although I’m pro-choice, I’m not sure it’s something to celebrate. I mean WTAF?!!! So disappointing to see this!”
“This isn’t making the point you think it is,” another follower wrote. “Either you are rage baiting or you truly think it’s completely rational to reduce abortion care to a trivial punchline and in either scenario it’s a bad look.”
The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ went on to pass the Senate that same day and was signed by President Trump on Friday.
Warning: Graphic images of abortion victims.
There is a misconception that no one ‘loves’ abortion, but Nixon’s hat proves otherwise. To say that abortion is ‘great’ or should be ‘great,’ ignores the reality of what abortion is and what it does.
By wearing the hat, Nixon is confirming there are people who celebrate the deaths of innocent preborn children under the guise of “women’s empowerment” or even the misguided belief that those human lives were of no value.
Nixon is also tone deaf to the plight of women who have undergone abortions and now live with physical or emotional trauma as a result.
