Obama administration: States defunding Planned Parenthood are breaking the law
The Obama Administration has reacted to two states’ decisions to defund Planned Parenthood with a warning, claiming that they are breaking federal law, Life News reports.
According to federal Health and Human Services Department spokesman Ben Wakana, “Longstanding Medicaid laws prohibit states from restricting individuals who have coverage through Medicaid from receiving care from a qualified provider,” such as Planned Parenthood.
Live Action News has previously reported that Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Governor Robert Bentley of Alabama chose to break their states’ Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood in the wake of undercover videos revealing the organization’s practice of selling the remains of aborted babies (allegedly doing so for profit) and illegally altering abortion procedures to obtain organs in optimal condition. Authorities in both states contend that, contrary to Wakana’s claim of illegality, the terms of their Medicaid contracts allow for the termination of the states’ relationship with their Planned Parenthood affiliates.
As Live Action has also covered, despite the administration’s unwavering defense of the abortion giant during the ongoing scandal, Press Secretary Josh Earnest admitted he had not actually watched the undercover videos and indicated other White House officials have not been willing to, either.
